Dr. Tony O’Donnell’s Vegan Protein Powder is made from all-natural, plant-based pea, rice, hemp, chia, and cranberry proteins with added l-glutamine, an amino acid that supports protein metabolism. One scoop provides 24 grams of high-quality protein — perfect for anyone requiring extra protein in their diet.
Who needs extra protein?
Research suggests that people who may particularly benefit from high protein consumption include athletes, pregnant and nursing women, those under chronic stress, people with blood sugar or metabolic problems, the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, and anyone trying to lose weight. For these populations, it is recommended that up to 20-35% of calories come from protein. That’s 100-175 grams of protein a day for someone on a 2,000 calorie diet. It is hard to get that much protein from food alone — you’d need to eat 5-9 cups of tofu or 7-12 cups of black beans a day!
Why is protein important?
Protein is a macronutrient — a nutrient that the body requires in large quantities. Every cell in the body needs protein to function, and the body needs a continuous supply from outside (food or supplement) sources. Protein builds and repairs tissues, aids in the production of enzymes, neurotransmitters, and hormones, and is a critical component of blood, bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, hair, and nails. High protein consumption is correlated with:
- Healthy weight maintenance
- Improved lean muscle mass
- Reduced hunger and lower calorie intake
- Less belly fat
- Quicker exercise recovery
- Decreased muscle loss or wasting
- Improved bone density
- Lowered blood pressure
- Better sleep
- Optimal blood sugar regulation
- Stronger, healthier hair and nails
